Review:
The Midnight Library was not what I was expecting, but in an amazing way. Our main character, Nora, attempts to take her own life right at the beginning of the story. She finds herself in a library containing an endless amount of books. Each book takes her to a different version of her life, one that could have existed if she had made different choices in the past. As the book goes on, we see a variety of the life’s Nora’s might have lived, some glamorous and some mundane. She discovers herself by realizing she will never be content if she focuses on what “could” have been. I won’t spoil the ending though, because I think this book is so worth the read.
This read is a bit deeper than the typical romance or fantasy book we review. It makes you self-reflect and find that we are all like Nora, being bogged down by regret. The author does an amazing job at captivating you through humor, passion, love, regret, confusion and a whirlwind of other emotions. This is a loose connection, but this book reminds me of the movie About Time. The sentiment of finding beauty in each day is, in my opinion, prevalent in both.
**The "would I read again" is complicated for me. It was a great book and I think everyone should read it once, but I fear reading it again wouldn’t have the same effect. I think you could re-read and still gain a lot from The Midnight Library though. Reading it for the first time is so special, I am scared the second time won’t be as good now that I know the ending. We are Christians and believe that everything is part of God’s plan. Even if you are not a religious person, I believe that the idea of being present and embracing the good, the bad, and the ugly of every day life is a great way to live.

This might be a bit of stretch, but philosophical thinking still makes me think of old men sipping bourbon. I know philosophy is for everyone but the I felt like the cliché was fun. If you are a non-drinker, a cup of hot tea should do the job as well. Anything that helps you sit and ponder over this book.
